too much candy gonna rot your soul - space coast pcs: mizuki
[ somewhere outside the lounge after the party drunkenly taking i.r.i.s. selfies while he still has his cute angel wings and frowning at each photo as he reviews them because he can't get the angle quite right when he's aiming from his wrist... ]
[ Ah. Now this is a man from the modern era. ]
Maybe it's the lighting.
Maybe it's the lighting.
Hmm, you think so?
[ rotates around and walks backwards to see if he can get a light that's hitting him in a more flattering way... ]

Yeah, fluorescent lighting sucks. Too bad there's no sunlight through the windows...
[ time to chill in the lounge after a profoundly un-chill day... he's just kind of slumped on a couch, looking out the window at all the black nothing. ]
...I didn't really think it was going to end up like that.
...I didn't really think it was going to end up like that.
Think anyone saw that coming?
[ that gets a little laugh ]
Yeah, probably not.
Yeah, probably not.
Talk about messed up... I'm just glad it's over with.
[ over on the gym side of the rec room in some cute pink sweats lifting weights!!
it's probably like, two 10-pound hand weights, but. look. he's making an effort. ]

[ aww, how cute ]
—Whoa. They've got a whole gym over here?

Yeah! Pretty nice, right?
...Though actually I think they kind of have to, because doesn't zero gravity make your muscles weak or something?

Iiii... think so. Not that I'm usually in space enough to know.

[ it feels like a chilly autumn night in this simulation room at the moment, dark save for a food stand in the middle of the room with warm lights and red curtains. the music is relaxing and a little melancholy, and the food looks and smells delicious — the kind of comfort food that just feels like home.
and seated at the bench are todomatsu and five other young men who look exactly like him, each wearing the exact same hoodie in a different color. they're all in various states of drunkenness, most passed out or close to it.
except for him. he's at the end of the bench with a half-full can of beer, arms crossed on the bar in front of him and resting his head on them. the worst of his injuries have been healed by this point, but there are still shallow cuts on all of the skin you can see, and his hair is messed up a little in front.
hearing someone else walk in, he raises his head and looks over tiredly. ]

[ As she walks in, Mizuki takes a good look around before she lifts a hand in greeting. ]
A little bit of home, I take it?
[ But why did you recreate five other copies of yourself... ]

[ i forgot his crutches but they are also here. anyway. he also raises his hand and sits up a little straighter, nodding in response. ]
An old friend runs the place, so we hang out there a lot.
[ they can usually get away with not paying their tab for a long time... ]

'We'...
[ She pointedly glances at the other five, uh, copies???? ]
Who're these guys?

No idea, never seen them before.
[ ...that's what he'd usually say, because he doesn't want to have to explain these pieces of shit to anyone. but obviously he can't get away with that when this simulation is coming from his own memories, and he's not really in the mood to joke about it either. he's exhausted and having way more feelings than he wants to today. it's gross. ]
...Kidding.
[ he looks over at them, then takes a sip of his beer. ]
They're my brothers.
[ imagine having an older sibling who looks exactly like you, mizuki... how wild would that be... ]

—That many of 'em? Damn.
[ There's not even room for her to sit! Well, that's okay. ]
I should'a guessed. The resemblance is striking!

[ he can scoot over a little if she wants. not like these simulations are going to care if he gets too close.
anyway, that gets like, the smallest hint of a laugh. ]
Yeah, it sure is. We're sextuplets. All identical.

Isn't that like, super rare?

Mm... I think we were the first ones.

[ a low whistle ]
Damn! Must've been pretty wild growing up with that many siblings.

[ lol well. in contrast to his angelic pink appearance from earlier, he is now in grayscale, visibly drunk, and smelling a little like cigarette smoke as he sits on this sofa in the rec room and just scrolls eternally through the tv options with no clear intention of ever actually watching any of them. we're doing great. ]
[ she's sitting somewhere nearby, watching him more than the tv. ]
Just put a bad movie on or somethin'.

Mmmm....
[ scrolls to dude where's my car and hits select. ]
Bad enough?

What is this?
What is this?
Shitty comedy for the white stoner demographic, I think.
Oh, that's going to be really bad.
But I did ask for it.
But I did ask for it.
Yeah, so now you're not allowed to leave until we either finish it or decide we can't take it anymore. Live with the consequences of your actions.
Pfft, please, I could handle it. Can you?
Of course! My whole life's a shitty comedy.
[ he means that literally. ]

That's—kind of relatable.
[ she doesn't... or does she ]
Then... [ she stares at the tv for a bit ] It's kind of better than sitting in silence.
[ and moping. ]
